Laboratory Assistant III

Description

Position Definition :

The incumbent will be conducting research related to multiple neurosurgery studies including mouse colony maintenance, tissue processing, histology/immunohistology, FACS, cell isolation/culture, gene/protein expression, and animal behavioral studies.

Essential Functions

  • Perform PCR, genotyping and mice colony maintenance
  • Perform small animal surgery and animal tissue collection, including perfusion and dissection
  • Perform immunohistochemistry techniques on animal brain sections
  • Perform cell isolation and FACS staining/analysis
  • RNA extraction
  • Prepare assays and equipment for research studies
  • Maintain cell culture including BMDM using aseptic techniques
  • Perform laboratory administration activities including the maintenance and ordering of equipment and supply, maintaining animal and experimental inventories, and filing work/repair orders
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Prior lab experience preferred
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory practices and equipment operation
  • Computer literacy with emphasis on current Windows operating systems and software applications including Excel, Photoshop, and presentation software
  • Ability to accurately follow experimental protocols
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and priorities to achieve desired goals
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong oral/written communication and organizational skills
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail

Working Conditions/Environment

The work environment is a biomedical research laboratory. It may include minor annoyances such as noise, temperature variations, etc. The incumbent may be required to sustain standing and seated postures and to use a computer keyboard and display monitor for prolonged periods.

The base salary range for this position is $23.56 - $28.06 per hour. The base salary actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations. A successful candidate may also be eligible to earn additional compensation including bonuses.
