Position Overview

The Marketing and Communications Department at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) serves the needs of all departments across the school and student activities. We use a collaborative approach and model inclusivity through a servant leadership model, and are a critical partner in supporting the school’s mission and operations.

The role of Social Media and Digital Content Intern is integral to elevating brand identity through printed and electronic collateral and operates as a partner in communicating the OLP story. This internship emphasizes website support; writing for collateral pieces (monthly newsletter, alumnae newsletter, magazine); potential news pieces (NCEA Momentum, Diocesan stories); cross-department communication support for Institutional Advancement and Admissions; email communication and social media support, videography, and other platforms utilized by the school. While primarily virtual, the intern may occasionally collaborate on campus based on availability. This candidate should possess strong skills in understanding multiple social media platforms, graphic design platforms, and use of photography and videography. Additionally, the Social Media and Digital Content Intern is an individual committed to fostering positive communications with all stakeholders and maintaining an inclusive work environment.

The MarComm intern reports to the Director of Marketing and Communication, Christine Wilson.

Essential Responsibilities

These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Support the school website with basic content updates, formatting, and accessibility checks; log updates for continuity.
  • Assist with the weekly bulletin layout and content, including curating cross-departmental information.
  • Assist with the monthly e-Newsletter and alumnae newsletter layout and content; support OLP magazine stories (copy, captions, light layout).
  • Draft short features and pitches for external publications (NCEA Momentum, Diocesan Newsletter), including headlines and pull quotes.
  • Create content and post regularly to school social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), assist with light analytics (reach, engagement).
  • Support bulk email communication efforts and directory/list submissions.
  • Organize photo assets, including tagging and updating SmugMug and other photo asset storage platforms.
  • Support on-campus photo shoots and assist contracted photographers as needed.
  • Attend on-campus events (masses, student performances and assemblies, socials, etc.) to capture photography and video for internal and external communications/storytelling (as schedule allows).
  • Assist in onsite and offsite printing as needed.
  • Provide editing and proofreading support for Marketing & Communications projects.
  • Partner in maintaining and organizing marketing and brand assets, including Spirit Store inventory as assigned.

Schedule and Modality

  • December–April (primarily virtual); on-campus support may be requested periodically.
  • Approximately 10 hours per week, with workdays and hours coordinated around the academic calendar and student schedules.
  • Rate: $20.00 per hour, part-time, classified, non-exempt.

Qualifications

This Position Requires An Understanding Of Content Curation, Marketing Principles And Practices, a High Level Of Professionalism, Attention To Detail, Self-motivation, Organization, And Familiarity With The Mission Of OLP. In Addition, The Ideal Candidate Will Possess The Following Criteria

  • Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program. Work and academic experience commensurate with social media and other marketing communications content curation.
  • Emerging excellence in communications, including oral presentation and the ability to produce clear documentation.
  • A propensity to learn and grow in a professional environment.
  • Experience in a school setting or working with students.
  • Proficiency in proofreading and grammar for editing purposes.
  • Comfort using a professional camera, as well as use of a cell phone camera.
  • Ability to edit and update materials using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or Canva.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and efficient; a self-starter who is able to work independently.
  • Excellent project management and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with changing priorities.
  • Maintain an open and welcoming presence, working well with a diverse group of people.
  • Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English is preferred.

OLP requires a resume and application.

Upon hiring you will be required to submit proof of current (within 60 days) negative TB test or TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire, Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, Valid CA Driver’s License, and provide all official transcripts associated with meeting academic requirements.
